Plum Creek boosted its bottom line 18% to $59 million during the third quarter from a year earlier on sales of $354 million, up 20.8% for the same period. The company's wood-products manufacturing segment saw an operating gain of $9 million for the quarter, tripling its numbers from the third quarter of 2011 on increased demand and higher prices for its plywood and medium density fiberboard (MDF) products. Plywood sales volumes grew 18% during the period from a year earlier while MDF sales jumped 43% and lumber sales dropped 8%; plywood prices grew 13%, MDF grew 5%, and lumber grew 7% for the same period.
