Lowe's reported second quarter 2013 net income of $941 million, a 26% increase over year-ago quarterly income of $747 million, while for the first half of the year, the retailer earned $1.48 billion, a 16.2% increase over the $1.28 billion in net income in the first half of 2012.
The Mooresville, N.C.-company had second quarter sales of $15.7 billion, a rise of 10.3% over the year ago period sales of $14.2 billion. For the six month period, sales were $28.8 billion, up 5.1% over the year ago period.
"Home improvement demand was strong during the quarter, and we capitalized on it with improving execution," said chairman, president and CEO Robert A. Niblock. "We drove a healthy balance of ticket and transaction growth, and delivered solid performance across all product categories."
As of August, Lowe's operated 1,758 stores in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
