Hammond Lumber Co. announced lateTuesday it has acquired Downeast Building Supply and Kitchen Center and will convert the Brunswick, Maine, facility into Hammond's ninth lumberyard starting May 10.
Downeast Energy, which owns the building supply store, said it selling the facility to focus on the company's energy business serving Maine and New Hampshire. Downeast Building Supply formerly was known as Brunswick Coal and Lumber.
Peter Bernier, a 35-year veteran with Downeast Building Supply and former Maine Retail Lumber Dealers Association person of the year, will be general manager of the Brunswick location. All 34 employees at the facility will be retained.
Belgrade, Maine-based Hammond Lumber ranked 43rd on this year's ProSales 100. It posted $85 million in sales in 2008, 80% of them to pros.
