SRS Distribution purchased the five-branch regional distributer Heritage Wholesalers in a deal that closed Aug. 2. The company also opened a new location in Amarillo, Texas, under the Southern Shingles name.

Heritage is a family-owned regional distributor with locations in Malden, Dartmouth, Worcester, and Braintree, Mass., and one location in Hudson, N.H. A one-step independent distributor, Heritage provides residential and commercial roofing materials, vinyl siding and windows, and other building products throughout New England. Founded in 1970, the company employs 60 people.

Former Heritage president Steve Field will stay with the company in a new regional business development role assisting Paul Whelan with new branches and sourcing acquisitions in the Northeast.

John Malo, the former CEO/CFO, will become a regional controller role for the Northeast. The entire sales and operation teams in all branches will be retained to run the branches going forward.

SRS will continue to operate the branches under the Heritage name and will also immediately transition the operating name of the existing Hartford, Connecticut branch to Heritage from Pace Supply.

“Heritage will be an integral part of our company’s growth plans serving as a new regional platform for our continued expansion in New England,” says Dan Tinker COO of SRS Distribution.

SRS also opened a new location in the West Texas city of Amarillo, Texas, under the Southern Shingles name. The 16th location bearing the Southern Shingles brand will carry a full line of residential and commercial roofing products and focus on servicing the area’s premier roofing contractors, remodeling contractors, and home builders.

The new branch will service the entire Texas Panhandle area and be led by Thomas Franklin, who brings a strong background in building products distribution in the Amarillo market.

"Ever since we opened our first location in Lubbock, we have been waiting for the appropriate time to expand again in West Texas,” Tinker says. “We finally had the right combination of elevated demand in the market driven by a hail storm and a great team of people looking to join us to be able to pull the trigger on this new location.”

SRS Distribution ranked 11th among the ProSales 100 with $785 million in 2012 sales, 99% of which went to pros.
