Kodiak Building Partners, Beacon Roofing Supply and ABC Supply increased their footprints during July with acquisitions and expansions.
The latest news of growth came July 26, when ABC Supply announced it will open a new store in Carnegie, Pa., on Aug. 1. It’s the second outpost in the Pittsburgh market for ABC, the Beloit, Wis.-based building products distributor.
On July 2, Beacon Roofing Supply announced that it acquired Structural Materials Co., a residential and commercial roofing products distributor operating out of Santa Ana, Calif., with six locations spread throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties.
The deal for Structural, which racked up $81 million in sales in 2011, came the same day that Peabody, Mass.-based Beacon announced it had opened its 200th facility: a new branch in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The location will operate under the company’s Best Distributor brand name. Beacon ranked third in this year’s ProSales 100, recording $1.88 billion in professional sales. On May 10, it reported net income of $3.1 million in the fiscal second quarter ended March 31, turning around from a net loss of $6.2 million during the same period a year ago. Net sales jumped 33% to $395.2 million.
On July 12, Kodiak Building Partners, a Denver-based investment group headed by former ProBuild CEO Paul Hylbert, acquired the assets of Gulf & Basco, a specialty building products distributor based in Houston. Kodiak Building Partners said it will take on the plumbing products distributor’s 80-person roster, leaving its management team intact. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
Hylbert called Gulf & Basco “a very effective distribution business. ... We envision growing the business in Texas on the base [this] group has established.”
Kodiak, which targets mid-sized suppliers, launched in July 2011 with the acquisition of steel building products manufacturer Barton Supply in Denver.
