The print version of my web story Five reasons Why ProBuild Failed included a more professional version of the hand-written map that I posted online. Here it is. Think of it as an upside-down sketch of a tree, in which we start with the deepest roots--in this case, some LBM operations that date back to the 1800s--and then track them as they slowly coalesce with other roots and ultimately form the giant trunk that is ProBuild. What this shows more than anything else is how many separate companies ultimately took on the ProBuild logo. And while the trunk looks solid here, ultimately the grafting project stumbled to the point where ProBuild's owners decided to sell out to Builders FirstSource.

Stay tuned for continuing coverage of this deal.
