Dealers could only have until the end of the week to urge Congress to pass the Overtime Reform and Enhancement Act (H.R. 5813), according to the NLBMDA. The organization says Congress could leave Washington, D.C., at the end of this week and not return until mid-November, which leaves a limited amount of time to pass the act that would slow the impact of the overtime rule. The proposed Overtime Reform and Enhancement Act would still enact the DOL's overtime rule; however, it would require the salary threshold to increase gradually over a period of three years, rather than instituting the changes all at once.

Congress.gov lists the proposed incremental increases:

  • $692 per week effective December 1, 2016
  • $765 per week effective December 1, 2017
  • $839 per week effective December 1, 2018
  • $913 per week effective December 1, 2019
