  • L&W Supply’s Indianapolis branch was awarded OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program Star designation, the third of the company’s locations to receive the designation, its parent USGannounced last week. 
  • Rod McLeod, president and owner of Espy Lumber Company, Hilton Head, S.C., died March 14 after battling cancer. He was 69. McLeod also was a past-chairman of the Southern Building Material Association.
  • Ace Hardwareannounced the launch of a new marketing campaign, “Meet the Aces,” which resurrects the company’s 1989 jingle. Watch one of the new TV spots here.
  • The Southern Building Material Association named Fortress Wood Products, Martinsville, Va., as its vendor of the year.
  • CertainTeed named Minas Apelian to the newly established post of vice president of research and development.
  • Osmose acquired New Zealand-based Mattersmiths’ wood-preservation unit.
  • Kensington Windows’ local management team will purchase the company from Sunnyvale, Calif-based Serious Energy—which acquired the manufacturer in 2009—effective March 15. The company will operate as Kensington High Performance Products and will focus on vinyl residential replacement windows.
  • Marvin’s Building Materials and Home Centers broke ground on a new location in Lewisburg, Tenn., adding to its roster of 27 stores in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee. 
  • Apha Pro Tech Engineered Products named the following as its 2012 Rex Gold Crown Distributor award winners for achieving the highest growth in sales dollar and sales percentage from the prior year: Woodford Plywood, Albany, Ga.; Palmer-Donavin Distribution, Columbus, Ohio; Dixie Plywood, Antioch, Tenn.; Huttig Building Products, St. Louis; Turner-McLean, Flint, Mich.; East Side Lumberyard Supply, Herrin, Ill.; and Wausau Supply Company, Schofield, Wis.
  • Eastman Chemical Company was awarded the Technology of the Year award from the Association of International Metallizers, Coaters, and Laminators for its low-e EnerLogic VEP35 window film.
