Hanley Wood announced the winners of its ProSales magazine 2013 Excellence Awards – the most prestigious awards program in the construction supply industry. Three construction supply dealers won grand prizes, while five other dealers received merit awards.
The ProSales Excellence Awards honor outstanding achievements in construction supply, showroom design, facility design, technology, marketing and customer service, advertising, and websites. The awards program celebrates business leaders whose creativity and ingenuity have not only improved and reinvigorated their own companies, but also set new benchmarks for service in the entire industry.
The 2013 Excellence Awards winners, locations and categories are:
- Main Street Lumber, Denison, Texas, MD / Technology

- Mathew Hall Lumber, St. Cloud, Minn. / Marketing
Receiving Merit Awards are:

Dealers and distributors competed in six different categories: Best Advertisement, Best Marketing Campaign, Best Website, Best Showroom, Best Facility Design, and Best Use of Technology. A panel of four independent judges then decided which entries, regardless of the category, achieved excellence and which other entries had shown enough to be worthy of merit.
The four judges picking the winners were: Chris Rader, ProSales columnist and president, Rader Solutions, Lafayette, LA; Rick Davis, ProSales columnist and president, Building Leaders, Chicago, Joost Douwes, vice president and general manager of Chinook Lumber, Snohomish, Wash., and Alan Pippenger, head of Requarth-Supply One, Dayton, Ohio, the 2012 ProSales Excellence Awards winner for best showroom.
“The 2013 ProSales Excellence Award winners created innovative technology, an exciting marketing plan and an inspired facility design that demonstrate the creative ways LBM dealers meet challenges and grow new business,” said Steve Campbell, editor, ProSales magazine. “Sanford & Hawley turned a bad situation into a winner by using an opportunity afforded by a road project to completely redesign its century-old facility, while Main Street Lumber developed innovative technology that improves both operations and sales. Finally, Mathew Hall Lumber created an exciting marketing plan that actually helps build its pro customers’ businesses.”
As for the Merit Award winners, both Drexel Building Supply and Franklin Building Supply created websites that reach out to multiple audiences with a variety of web-based tools. BMC used its marketing plan unite the company under new branding and Sunroc Building Materials’ marketing program used incentives to cement its relationship with customers. The Standard Group built a mobile showroom to take business to its customers.
