Carter Lumber announced today it has combined its operations in Medina and Akron, Ohio, rebranded the Akron facility as Carter Lumber, and is moving its Sheffield Village, Ohio, yard into a new facility a few miles away in the Cleveland suburb of Elyria, Ohio.
The Akron facility--Carter Lumber's first location--has until now gone by the company's original name of Carter-Jones Lumber. Now it will be called Carter Lumber.
The Medina store is being combined with Akron's because it outgrew its facility, a Carter Lumber spokesman said. All business and staff now will operate out of the much larger Akron yard and will continue to serve Medina-area businesses.
As in Medina, Carter's Sheffield Village facility also got too cramped, so the company is moving to the former Del Lumber yard in Elyria. That new facility should be operational in March and will continue to serve western suburbs of Cleveland, the company said.
Kent, Ohio-based Carter Lumber recorded sales of $956.3 million last year and employs more than 2,600 people at 144 stores. It ranks 12th on the current ProSales 100 list.
