About the Survey
The ProSales 100 is a ranking of the nation's top residential construction suppliers and distributors that participated in the 2009 ProSales 100 survey. Data collection for the survey commenced early this year with an invitation to take part in the mainly electronic poll, which was created by Specpan, part of The Farnsworth Group of Indianapolis.
The rankings are based on what dealers reported using the survey with two exceptions: the Builders FirstSource data was based on reports to the Securities and Exchange Commission, while data from 84 Lumber came from company announcements and interviews with 84 officials. No estimates were made of gross sales, pro sales percentage, or any other data used in this report. Not all dealers answered every question, so the percentages listed are based on the number of responses to that question.
The ProSales 100 represents full-line lumberyards, lumberyards with manufacturing capabilities, and specialty distributors that sell a variety of product lines to builders, remodelers, and contractors. At least 50% of an LBM operation's sales must be made to professional builders in order to be considered for the ProSales 100. If your firm would like to be considered for the 2010 ProSales 100, contact senior editor Andy Carlo at acarlo@hanleywood.com.
