Operating earnings rose 7% to $9 million and revenues climbed 9% to $77 million at the gypsum wallboard and paperboard operations of Eagle Materials, the Dallas-based company reported today.
Gypsum wallboard sales increased 2% in volume to 454 million square feet and 2% as well in net sales price to $98.15 per thousand square feet, the company said. Meanwhile, sales of gypsum paperboard rose 5% in volume to 59,000 tons and 20% in price to $481.47 per ton.
Despite those modest improvements and a 2% rise in overall sales to $130.8 million, the company's overall net earnings declined 12% from the year-earlier second quarter to $10.5 million. Eagle also produces paperboard, cement, concrete, and aggregates.
