Do it Best , the Fort Wayne, Ind.-based LBM and hardware co-op, has named Mike Altendorf as its new vice president of technology and Tim Miller as new vice president of marketing.

Tim Miller Altendorf joined Do it Best last March as director of IT business planning and architecture. Prior, he was a 22-year veteran of hardware co-ops and replaces Kay Williams who is retiring after a 31-year career with the company.

In his new position, Altendorf will be responsible for all IT-related programs and the implementation of technologies that support the co-op's initiatives, Do it Best said in a prepared statement. Altendorf was also employed at as director of IT at Flexco, a manufacturer and wholesaler of products for belt conveyors.

"Mike has a wealth of knowledge and experience in IT and small business consulting," said Bob Taylor, Do it Best Corp. president and CEO. "He understands the company and our industry and will be integral to a number of our key strategic initiatives."

Miller, who joined Do it Best in 1993 as a retail processing specialist, replaces Bill Zielke who is retiring after 12 years at the co-op. As vice president of marketing, Miller will now be responsible for the advertising, retail programs, store design, exclusive brand packaging, and communications-related activities of the co-op.

Mike Altendorf While serving in the position of retail logistics manager, in 1999 Miller was responsible for launching Do it Best's Warehouse Management System (WMS).

"Tim has the advantage of having worked in many facets of our organization," Taylor said. "He has a tremendous depth of understanding into our operations, and we know his insight will be invaluable to our organization in his new leadership position."

Do it Best Corp. is the only U.S.-based, member-owned, full hardware and LBM co-op. The cooperative has annual sales of $2.46 billion and serves 4,100 member-owned stores in the United States and 46 foreign nations.
