There’s no designated hitter in LBM. Operations that want to win in this game have to do lots of things well. Thus it’s appropriate that this year’s four Grand Prize winners of ProSales Excellence Awards won for their work in four different business sectors.
The 2016 Excellence Award winners are:
- Tum-A-Lum Lumber, for Facility Design
- US LBM, for Education Program
- Short & Paulk, for Marketing
- BMC, for Technology
In addition to these four Grand Award winners, Howe Lumber received a Merit Award for Facility Design.
ProSales' annual awards program celebrates business leaders whose creativity and ingenuity have not only improved and reinvigorated their own companies but have also set new benchmarks for service in the entire industry. Grand winners receive $500 and Merit winners $150 to donate to a charity of their choice.
This year's winners were selected from several dozen entries sent in by dealers nationwide in seven categories: Best Overall Yard or Facility Design; Best Showroom Design; Best Marketing Campaign/Customer Service Program; Best Single Advertisement or Series of Advertisements; Best Use of Technology; Best Education Program; and Best Safety Program.
We invited four outside judges to pick the winners: David Niehaus, vice president of sales at Niehaus Lumber, Vincennes, Ind.; Dwight Simmons, president of Mountain Lumber, Boone, N.C.; Rick Davis, president of Building Leaders, Chicago; and Chris Rader, president of Rader Solutions, Lafayette, La.
The judges’ chief instruction was to look for “stealable ideas.” This year’s winners had the best of them, as their stories will show. In addition, look for us to cite the lesser but still valuable ideas from other entries in a variety of ways in future issues.
